How the vamp is made

The vamp can be made many ways depending upon design, however the basic patterns are shown below.

A. Cut in one piece also known as whole cut vamps.

B. Cut into two sides which will be joined with a front seam.

C. Cut in two pieces with the vamp running the full length of one side of the shoe and joined to a single quarter on the inside.  This is called a three-quarter cut vamp.  (most of your pumps are cut this way)

D. Shoe divided into three pieces, vamp and two quarters.

Even if you never make a shoe it’s kind of interesting to see the process, look at the shoes in your closet and you’ll see these patterns.
